About

Dear reader, we are delighted to welcome you to the website of this year's FMF symposium. If you are new here, this is an annual event organised by the Symcie committee of the FMF, the study association for (Applied) Mathematics, Physics, and Astronomy at the University of Groningen. Everything, from contacting sponsors and speakers to finding the perfect location, is entirely done by dedicated students in their free time.

Every year there is a different theme that the symposium revolves around. This time we have chosen "Tipping Points". We have tried to interpret the theme in the broadest sense possible to include diverse speakers from Physics, Mathematics, Astronomy and even Computer Science.

This topic intrigued us because it beautifully showcases the elegance of the universe. From the laws of physics to the fundamentals of mathematics, everything is intricately intertwined, leaving us in awe of the connections we uncover. Exploring symmetries and harmonies in these fields reveals the stunning complexity and beauty of our world. Once you start seeing the bigger picture, there is no going back. Join us on our way to uncovering it!

The symposium will take place on the 21st of February 2025 at at a yet to be determined location. If you are looking for more information about the event, you have come to the right place. Browse the FMF Symposium website to learn about the speakers and the programme as well as register through the provided sign-up link if you are already interested in attending. We hope to see many of you there!

The best student symposium I've ever witnessed

prof. Philip Moriarty

It was a really great event to be a part of, and I have to say that it was also one of the best-organised events that I've been involved in for a long time
